What kind of country are we? What kind of country do we want to be?

These essential questions imbue The Levees curriculum with a democratic spirit and a social mission, just as the curriculum is meant to support educators and students as they work toward a deeper understanding of a broad set of social, historical, and cultural issues.

The professional development resources located in this section aim to provide additional support for educators and students. These resources, which include videos, podcasts, and readings, offer a close look at teachers who are using The Levees curriculum in various educational settings. They aim to provide additional insight into instructional practices that foster democratic dialogues and civic engagement. We invite visitors to contribute to the conversation and share their own educational resources with the community who will use The Levees curriculum in the years ahead.

Teaching the Levees is a collaboration of Teachers College, Columbia University, The Rockefeller Foundation, HBO Documentary Films, Teachers College Press, and the EdLab
